CJ Fails To Appear Before PAC

The PAC Chair Cecily Mbarire however says that Members of Parliament are confident that he will eventually show up for his appearance.

Mutunga was due to appear before the PAC to answer to what he termed as a smear campaign against the Judicial Service Commission over alleged misappropriation of funds.

“The Judiciary has been under attack and I want Kenyans to hear our story over the issues being raised. The JSC has been maligned,” the CJ said.

Mbarire says the CJ will be summoned at a later date as MPs probe the Auditor General’s report on the misappropriation of over Ksh 2.2 billion in the Judiciary between December 2013 and March 2014.

The meeting was rescheduled as the Chief Justice was said to be attending the swearing in of 11 new judges at State House, Nairobi.

The 11 new judges are being sworn in after their formal appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta

The PAC is also also set to summon Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama whose company was allegedly paid 310 million for the CJ’s residence.
