Class 6 boy shocks court after confessing to committing crime for 2 years

A 12-year-old boy stunned a court in Embu County after admitting to have been involved in criminal activities for the last two years at their home in Kithimu village in Embu West.

He told the court that he had broken into houses and stolen from his neighbours many times before he was nabbed on Monday, May 6.

The Standard Six pupil, who was appearing before Chief magistrate Maxwell Gicheru, was facing charges of housebreaking.

He was charged that on May 5, 2019 at Kithimu Location in Embu West Sub-county he broke into the house of one Namu Mbuthia and stole 8 kilograms of dry maize valued at Ksh.300.

He also faced a second charge that on May 6, at Kithimu location within Embu-West Sub-county he was found in possession 8 kilograms of maize having the reason to believe it was stolen goods.

The boy pleaded guilty to the two charges.

He told the court that he previously stole Muguka from his father’s farms and sold it to a woman in the area then used the proceeds to buy Mandazi.

The boy further confessed to have stolen and sold macadamia nuts from his neighbour and used the money to buy a shirt, boxer and trousers.

The boy said he started the stealing habit while in Class Four and all along, he has been stealing and buying items that please him.

The court ordered that he be remanded at Runyenjes Police Station before a report from probation officers is tabled in court on May 15, 2019 for the court to make a decision on the matter.
