A section of Jubilee leaders want the process of selecting new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners led by the clergy.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau said that the process of installing new commissioners at the helm of IEBC must be led by neutral individuals and must steer clear of politics.

Muturi cautioned elected leaders, especially Members of Parliament and Senators, against bringing into play politics in the crucial process that will determine who leads the country to next year’s polls.

Speaking at St Stephen Riandegwa ACK Chuch in Murang’a, Muturi noted that the clergy is the best placed to lead the electoral commission saying that it is unlike politicians who are motivated by personal agenda.

“Let us allow the religious community to help us in this matter,” said Muturi.

“We know the church will consider people of integrity who put the country first.”

On his part, MP Kamau said the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee on IEBC must come up with a panel that is respectable, acceptable by all Kenyans and willing to work for Kenyans.

He said the new-look IEBC must be a team that will deliver a credible election next year.

“All we want is a panel that will take charge of IEBC and all I see are the religious and business communities that are peace-loving and with no hidden agenda,” noted the Kigumo MP.

Senate Deputy Speaker, Kembi Gitura, who was also present, called for lifestyle audit of all those eyeing elective seats in the next year’s elections.

“We cannot allow a few people to continue enriching themselves as the majority become poor,” said Kembi.
