Clinton battles pneumonia, Trump asked about her health

Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton emerged on Sunday (September 11) from her daughter Chelsea’s New York City apartment shortly before her diagnosis of pneumonia became public.

Clinton had fallen ill earlier in the day at a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony in an episode that renewed focus on her health less than two months before U.S. voters to elect their next president.

Clinton had a medical examination when she got back to her home in Chappaqua, New York, according to a campaign aide.

Her doctor, Lisa Bardack, said in a statement that Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies and that an examination on Friday (September 9) showed that she was suffering from pneumonia.

Bardack said Clinton was put on antibiotics, advised to rest and modify her schedule. She said that while at Sunday’s event, Clinton became “overheated and dehydrated” but that after examining her Clinton was “re-hydrated and recovering nicely”.

Before news of her pneumonia had become public, Clinton’s Republican rival Donald Trump was asked to react to news of her Sunday morning health incident.

“I don’t know anything about it,” he told a reporter at an event with New York City fire fighters.

News of the pneumonia diagnosis comes at a crucial time of the race in which conservatives have touted conspiracies about Clinton’s health.

They have implied in recent weeks that Clinton’s coughing spells on the campaign trail were a sign of deeper problems.

Clinton has been in the news before for serious health issues.

In December 2012, she suffered a concussion and shortly afterward developed a blood clot.
