Clinton speaks on Trump win, American values

Hillary Clinton has congratulated Donald Trump on winning the 2016 U.S. Presidential elections, saying she would work closely with the President-elect to serve the American nation.

Speaking in New York Wednesday evening, Mrs Clinton thanked her supporters for standing with her throughout campaigns and election period.

“I feel pride and gratitude for this campaign that we built together. Being your candidate has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I know you have been disappointed but I feel it too. Our campaign was not about one person; it was about inclusion of all American people. We must accept this result and look into the future. Donald Trump is going to become our President, we should work with him,” said Hillary Clinton.

“Last night I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him for the best interest of this country,” added Hillary Clinton.

The Democrat said she would not hesitate to defend, point out wrongs when the rights of the American people are violated, especially on freedom of worship, expression and association.

She further urged Americans to speak in one voice.

In her speech, Clinton also lauded outgoing first family (the Obamas) for their transformational and servant leadership toward the American people.

Hillary Clinton urged the youth who would want to venture into politics not to relent as their dreams are – just like hers – valid.

“To the young people in particular I have had successes and I have had setbacks, many of you are at the beginning of your political careers. Never stop believing in fighting for what is right. It is worth it!”

“To all women, especially young women, I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion. I know we have still not shattered the highest glass ceiling but I believe sooner or later we will have that person. [And] to all the little girls never doubt that you are deserving of an opportunity to represent your ambition,” said Mrs Clinton.

Mrs Clinton, nonetheless, expressed her optimism that unity among citizens will lead to America’s prosperity (financially, socially and politically) into the future.

“If we stand together and work together, our best days are still ahead of us. Because I believe we are stronger together and we will go forward together. We shall rip if we do not lose heart for there are more seasons to come. I am incredibly grateful to have represented you in this election and may God bless you and may God bless America,” Mrs Clinton concluded her speech.

Senator Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate, in his speech in New York described the latter as a passionate, patriotic American citizen.

“I am proud of Hillary Clinton for becoming first woman as nominee of major political party in the U.S. It is an amazing accomplishment. She has built a wonderful team. I am proud of Hillary because she loves this country. Nobody can doubt it. She knows this country well. It is obvious to everybody,” said Senator Kaine.

Donald Trump floored Hillary Clinton after garnering more than the needed 270 electoral votes to win the presidency; as at 12 noon (EAT) Wednesday, Republican Donald Trump had bagged 289 electoral votes compared to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s 218.

Trump, 70, is expected to be sworn in on January 20, 2017.
