Close restaurants at 4pm as required by law Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health has reiterated that all restaurants must be closed by 4pm as was announced by Health CAS in April.

On Friday, Head of Public Health Francis Kuria expressed concern over restaurants extending their opening hours.

“The minute the curfew was extended to 9pm most restaurants extended their times to 10pm and the activities in those restaurants are not what we anticipated they would be doing…..serving alcohol. It’s rather unfortunate,” Dr. Kuria said.

The Head of Public Health said they are yet to announce extension of operating times for restaurants even though President Uhuru Kenyatta announced new curfew times.

He however noted that the Health Ministry is reviewing protocols for operation of eateries and restaurants and will be released to the public in due course.

“Before they are approved, we urge Kenyans to be responsible. Close restaurants at 4pm as required by law,” Dr Kuria said.

He further warned that law enforcement officers have been instructed to purge on those who go against the Ministry guidelines for operation of restaurants.

Dr. Kuria further noted that some establishments have already been shut down and had their licenses revoked after they disobeyed social distancing guidelines.

“If we withdraw your permit, it is withdrawn permanently. If your permit is taken don’t bother reapplying, we will make sure it does not go through,” he warned.

“We urge all restaurants to keep to the timings, it is still 4pm, so that we give the restaurant workers time to go home and beat the curfew.
