Coast leaders castigate Jubilee for failing to implement TJRC report

A section of leaders from the Coast region have condemned the Jubilee Government for failing to implement recommendations in the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report.

Speaking in Dabaso area in Malindi, Kilifi County, Kilifi County Women Representative Aisha Jumwa questioned why President Uhuru Kenyatta failed to begin the implementation of the recommendations in the report submitted to him in May 2013.

“There is a report that was done, why is President Uhuru Kenyatta refusing to implement the TJRC report recommendations?” she posed.

Jumwa claimed that the Jubilee Government is sitting on the report because some of its leaders are implicated in various scandals, with her sentiments being echoed by Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo.

“You cannot be a part of the problem and at the same time be part of the solution,” he said.

TJRC was established by an Act of Parliament in 2008 after the outbreak of the 2007 post election violence.

In the coastal region specifically, the TJRC report outlines long standing discontent among indigenous communities, over land-related injustices.
