Coast region on high alert as rains, floods expected

The Kenya Meteorological Department has put residents of the Coast region on high alert as the area is expected to received heavy rainfall and flooding starting tomorrow, Saturday 28, 2018.

According to a statement from the weatherman, within the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall of more than 40mm is expected in all counties along the Coastal strip.

“The rains are likely to cause flooding in low lying areas near the coastline and other water repositories,” reads the statement.

“Rainfall intensities are expected to start increasing over the Coastal region from Saturday (28th April, 2018) with moderate rainfall of about 20mm in 24 hours expected over parts of extreme North coast. On Monday 30th April, Tuesday 1st May and Wednesday 2nd May 2018, heavy rainfall of more than 40mm in 24hours is expected off shore and in all counties along the Coastal strip.”

Areas of concern have been identified as Lamu, Kilifi, coastal part of Tana-River County, Mombasa and Kwale.
