Cobra scares Kwale residents from borehole

Residents of Jaza-a in Kwale county were forced to go without water for two consecutive days after a cobra crawled into a borehole that supplies the area drinking water.

Elfridah Mwatibo said that the snake had been moving about in the area hampering movement and daily chores as residents were fearful of attacks.

Concerted efforts by locals to eject the serpent from the borehole proved futile and were forced to seek the help of a snake handler from Kenya Wildlife Service who managed to remove the 1.5 meters long snake from the borehole in three minutes.

Nathan Gatundu, Deputy Senior Warden from Shimba Hills National Reserve, confirmed the incident saying that the snake was indeed poisonous and that they had lost many residents due to attacks from such vipers.

Gatundu urged residents to exercise caution and immediately report such incidents to avoid loss of lives due to snake bites since kwale is prone to dangerous snakes.
