Coffee farmers want Uhuru to disburse money awarded to them

Coffee farmers in Runyenjes, Embu County have called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and ensure the funds he awarded to revive the industry are disbursed.

The President awarded the monies following the recommendations by Prof Joseph Keiya-led task force.

Through their lobby group, Premier Small-Scale Coffee Growers Association, the farmers said that it’s now six months down the line and the monies have not yet been availed to them as recommended by the task force.

“We had been promised that the money will be available to us by July last year but until now, nothing has happened. We are asking ourselves, was this political?”

Led by the Association Secretary General, John Kathangu, the farmers said that the President should not make the declaration as a political statement since the farmers need the monies to improve their coffee production.

He said that the President has been visiting other areas to explain on various funds he has awarded to farmers but has not done the same for Embu.
