Coffee worth Ksh.940,000 stolen from a factory in Kirinyaga

Kagumo Coffee Factory in Kirinyaga County is counting huge losses after an armed gang stormed the factory on Friday morning, making away with coffee worth at least Ksh.940,000.

According to the three security guards stationed at the factory, a gang of over 15 menacing thugs armed with a gun used a pick-up truck to haul over 30 bags of coffee from the stores.

The factory chairman Peter Munene Muriithi said the security guards had been beaten senseless, sustaining serious injuries in the process.

Muriithi said it was shocking that the guards had raided the factory in broad daylight.

The incident happened at around 10am on Friday.

Kirinyaga Central sub-county Deputy county Commissioner Daniel Ndege said they suspect a possible inside job.

“We have the suspicion that this is an inside job, the three watchmen and the factory management will be investigated,” Ndege said.
