Coffee worth Sh300 million stolen in Mathira

Farmers affiliated to Mathira North Coffee Society woke up to a rude shock after armed thugs raided Kiamariga Factory and stole parchment coffee worth Sh300 million.

Police have so far arrested two guards of the facility who are being held at the Kiamariga Police Station.

The Society chairman, Francis Maina, said that the guards were on patrol at the facility at around 1 am when over thirty raiders invaded the facility.

He said that the thugs attacked one of the guards before proceeding to tie them up and steal the coffee.

Maina added that the guards’ explanation did not add up, forcing police to arrest them for further interrogation.

Agitated farmers who flocked the factory accused the society’s management of recklessness, questioning their decision to store large quantities of coffee in an insecure place.

Investigations into the theft are still ongoing.
