COG Alarmed Over Makueni Affairs

The Council has asked the leaders to resolve their differences or face imminent dissolution of the county government

Speaking to the media at Delta House in Nairobi, the Council of Governors chairman Isaack Ruto said the council will be forced to forward a recommendation to the President that would start the process of dissolving the county government.

Ruto said this will be done in accordance with article 192 section 1 of the constitution.

The council strongly condemned the violence witnessed in Makueni where five people were shot and injured during the Tuesday fracas

The statement came just a few days after chaos erupted at the Makueni County Assembly hall that left six people nursing gunshot wounds.

The shooting came after fracas broke out between the governor’s supporters and those of senior county assembly officials.

Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao who was part of a meeting organized by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo accused the governor of hiring goons to disrupt the meeting.

Among those injured during the incident were Makueni Chief of Staff and the governor’s bodyguard.
