Come clean about Aladwas remarks, Duale tells CORD

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale now wants the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leadership to come clear and state whether they support the utterances made by former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa.

On Mashujaa Day, Aladwa was caught on camera telling Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters in Kibera that things would turn ugly should Raila Odinga fail to take presidency in the upcoming 2017 polls.

Speaking in Madogo during a funds drive in aid of Life Frontier School, Duale condemned Aladwa’s remarks.

In the same breath, he cautioned Jubilee lawmakers against making similar statements stating that the coalition would not entertain such utterances from them. The Majority leader further warned that the party will not only strip them of their party membership, but would ensure that culprits would be prosecuted for hate speech.

Duale urged the Director of Public Prosecution, Criminal Investigation Department and the Inspector General of police to move with speed to investigate Aladwa’s utterances with a view of prosecuting him.

His sentiments were echoed by Bura MP Ali Wario who challenged fellow politicians to desist from utterances that will divide Kenyans and subsequently lead to bloodshed.

Caught on camera

George Aladwa, who serves as ODM’s Nairobi Chairman was caught on camera saying: “2017 imekaribia na sisi kama watu wa ODM tumebaki na risasi moja…this time round the outcome of the election ikiwa tumeshinda na watunyang’anye wacha kiumane..Raila ndio awe President lazima watu wakufe kiasi…”

(Translation: “2017 is near and as ODM we are left with one bullet. This time round if Raila Odinga wins and he is denied victory through rigging of the elections things will turn ugly. People must die for Raila to become president…”)

This statement landed him in trouble, and the ODM leader found himself in police custody on Friday. When asked to answer to accusations that his statements were tantamount to incitement to violence, Aladwa claimed that his remarks were taken out of context.

Cord leader Raila Odinga has since come out to downplay Aladwa’s remarks saying that they were not meant to incite Kenyans as the Jubilee camp claims.
