Compensate and resettle IDPs before holding prayers, MP tells Jubilee
Matungulu Member of Parliament Stephen Mule has called on the Jubilee Government to compensate and resettle the victims of 2007/08 post-election violence (PEV) before engaging in celebrations and prayers.
The legislator stated that though he welcomes the termination of the International Criminal Court (ICC) cases against Deputy President William Ruto and co-accused Joshua Arap Sang, the government should not overlook the pain and suffering of the Kenyans who were affected by the PEV.
Mule also criticised the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on how they handled the Okoa Kenya initiative, citing that they could not compare the signatures since they lacked a database of signatures.
Reflecting on the ‘bungled’ 2007 polls, the lawmaker told IEBC to get their matters in order so that a repeat of the fatal post-poll chaos would not take place in 2017.
Mule also urged the Director of Public Prosecutions to hasten the process of prosecuting public officers named by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), adding that they should also take charge of what is happening at Chase Bank.
He further called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to increase the allocation of CDF to 25%.
Following the ICC announcement, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that he will convene thanksgiving prayers at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru – a venue that birthed the “Uhuruto” partnership.
