Compensate cattle rustling, PEV victims, MP tells gov’t

Baringo North MP William Cheptumo has urged the national government to speedily compensate victims of post election violence (PEV) and cattle rustling.

Speaking in Kalabata, Baringo County on Sunday during a fundraiser of the first church in the area, Cheptumo appealed to the government to compensate victims of the injustices who up to date live in abject poverty due to cattle rustling and 2007/2008 post election violence.

“It is high time the government acts on the promises they made to PEV and cattle rustling victims. The resident and his deputy promised to resettle and compensate those who were displaced in the 2007/2008 post-election violence and cattle rustling victims,” said Cheptumo.

According to the legislator, Parliament passed a motion to compensate the victims, adding that the national the government should fast-track the disbursement of the funds.

He further said that the government should also set aside a National fund so that when a life or is lost livestock are stolen due to cattle rustling the victim is compensated immediately.
