Complaints over homosexuality in Siaya schools

The Ministry of Education is investigating cases of homosexuality among primary school pupils within Gem sub-county, Siaya.

According to the director of education in Gem, Mr. Benjamin Mauko, they have received a lot of complaints from members of the public who claim that the vice is rampant and needs to be checked.

Mr. Mauko, who did not reveal the affected schools, told the Gem sub-county service delivery meeting chaired by the area Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Mayama that his office has launched investigations into the matter.

He did not say what action will be taken on those found to be engaging in the act.

Mr. Mauko lamented the lack of birth certificates saying that is impeding the registration of pupils and students into the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) registration.

NEMIS will ensure examination candidates are assigned a specific number that will be used throughout their academic career and targets KCPE and KCSE.
