Confusion as name of ODM Tana River gubernatorial candidate missing on IEBC list
By Dadu Ngumbao
Confusion has hit the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as the name of Dhadho Godhana, the winner for Tana River gubernatorial primaries, was found missing on the list of candidates published by the party on Saturday, May 27.
The name of the runners up in the nominations exercise, Adam Dhidha Barissa, appeared on the list.
According to the IEBC schedule, Barissa is expected to present his papers for clearance on Thursday, June 1.
Godhana has, however, insisted that he is the bona fide winner of the party ticket and he will present his papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for approval.
The error has emerged as the electoral commission kicks off the process of verifying papers for candidates ahead of the August 8 polls.
IEBC is expected to scrutinise documents of 16 364 candidates by the closure of the exercise on June 20.
The commission approved three presidential candidates; Dr. Ekuru Aukot, Raila Odinga and Abduba Dida, on the first day of the exercise.
