Confusion, heartbreak as baby who ‘resurrected,’ dies

A family in Lioki, Kiambu County is mourning the death of their three-week-old baby for the second time in a week.

The family of the infant has been through hell as they mourned their baby who was wrongfully pronounced dead at birth by a doctor, “resurrected,” then died again.

Drama started when a doctor at the Kiambu Level V Hospital pronounced the infant dead and the family was even issued with a death certificate.

But as they were ferrying the baby home for burial, the parents discovered that their baby was actually alive; tears of grief turned to joy and the burial ceremony was hastily cancelled.

When they got home, they decided to feed the baby with cow milk and to their surprise the baby finished the entire bottle and it was then that they rushed the baby to Kigumo Level IV Hospital.

The child was given emergency treatment before being transferred to Gatundu Level V Hospital. But things turned dark after the baby died while receiving treatment.

Kiambu Health CEC Joseph Karega said investigations have been opened to find out the circumstances under which the child was first pronounced dead at the Kiambu Level 5 hospital.
