Confusion in Machakos over reinstatement of sacked employees

A crisis looms in Machakos County after 72 employees sacked last week remained out of office despite being reinstated by the county government.

According to Machakos Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, the 72 Revenue Collecters were laid off and later a decision to reinstate them after re-evaluation was reached.

However, the employees have not been allowed to access offices despite the reinstatement order.

Speaking to Citizen Digital Wednesday, September 28, Daniel Kilonzo, a representative of the workers, said that they want clarification on whether they should return to work or not.

“Some of our colleagues did not even have bus fare to come here and air their grievances. We are looking for help from the chairman of the labour committee so that we can get a solution to this confusion,” he said.

The Revenue Collectors said that the Governor differed with the County Public Service Board on its decision to fire them.

He, however, ordered that the employees be re-deployed but his directive has since not been effected.

The employees argue that there has been a miscommunication on the way forward.

Efforts to reach the County Public Service Board for a comment were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.
