Controversial Bishop Gilbert Deya released on Ksh.10M bond

The High Court in Nairobi has granted controversial televangelist Gilbert Deya Ksh. 10million bond.

In his ruling, Justice Luka Kimaru directed that Deya deposit the cash bail or a bond of a similar amount.

“The suspect needs to be given stringent terms so that he does not abscond as he has a history of maligning the courts, ” Justice Kimaru said.

Through his lawyer John Swaka, the televangelist lamented that he is an old, sickly man yet has been in remand since January following the Prosecution’s appeal on his bond.

Deya is facing charges of stealing five underage children between 1999 and 2004.

The said offences were allegedly committed between May 12, 1999 and August 19, 2004 from a house in Mountain View Estate, Nairobi.
