Controversial Doctor Mugo Wa Wairimu charged afresh with rape

Controversial ‘doctor’ Mugo Wa Wairimu has been charged afresh with twelve counts including rape, masquerading as a gynecologist and operating a clinic without valid licenses.

Mugo is also charged with illegally administering unknown drugs, operating as a pharmacist without registering with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and hiring an unlicensed laboratory technologist.

The Prosecution also read to the accused the amended charges but the hearing failed to kick off after he fired his lawyer who failed to show up in court to represent him on several occasions.

Mugo asked the court for another adjournment to get the services of another lawyer with Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo warning that there will be no more adjournments.

Mugo was exposed by Citizen TV for allegedly raping his clients in clinics he was operating in Nairobi’s Githurai and Zimmerman estates.

He was also charged with operating a laboratory without the approval of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board, practicing as unregistered and unlicensed person and possession of irradiation device without licence.

After the expose, Mugo remained a free man for over a week despite the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board revealing that it had previously closed his clinics and handed him over to police for investigations.

Angry residents of Nairobi’s Githurai 44 milled outside the Prestige Healthcare Clinic baying for his blood for the acts he had allegedly committed.

The controversial ‘doctor’ was arrested by police early September while taking tea at a Limuru hotel.

Upon arrest, Mugo went on Facebook to post a photo of himself with a caption; “Unbowed. Safely in the hands of Tigoni police.”

The ‘fake’ medic accused the media of trying to ‘blackmail’ him and argued that the story aired on Citizen TV, that clearly showed his face and the act, was ‘maliciously edited’ to ruin his career.

“Mob justice, media or otherwise only replaces due process in failed states. Kenya is not Iraq, Syria or Yugoslavia. There is a competent police force to handle any manner of criminal investigations,” posted the Mugo.

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered Mugo’s arrest after the public continued mounting pressure on the authorities to arrest and charge him.

The Case will be mentioned on May 3rd, 2016.
