Cop from Ruiru Police Station arrested after accountant robbed of Ksh.5M

An officer from Ruiru Police Station has been arrested after an accountant was violently robbed of $50,000 (Ksh. 5,575,000).

Detectives based at Parklands also arrested three Mitsumi Business Park linked to the incident.

“Armed with pistols, the four, together with others who are being sought accosted the accountant while inside a lift as she was heading to deposit the cash in the bank,” a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The sleuths are reported to have recovered $10,000 (Ksh.1,115,000) from one of the suspect’s house in Huruma estate, Nairobi.

He has been identified as Albert Ochola who works as a plumber at the Mitsumi Business Park.

The DCI said a further $12,300 (Ksh. 1,371,450) was recovered from Walter Kiverenge’s house in Kawangware.

The staff supervisor had apparently concealed the cash inside a water dispenser.

Also in custody is another suspect– Bernard Ogutu Oketch.

The DCI said $10,000 (Ksh. 1,115,000); a brand new TV and two mobile phones were recovered from his house in Mathare Area One.

The suspects are to be arraigned in court on Thursday.
