Cop injured as gang raids police station

A police officer is recuperating at St Mary’s Hospital, Mumias unknown assailants attacked Booker Police Station at 3:00 am Wednesday, November 23.

The victim, identified as Ezekiel Juma, suffered serious head injuries that police say may have been inflicted using a sharp object like a machete.

According to Western Regional Police Commander, Moses Ombati, the police officer was alone manning the station when the attacked occurred as his colleagues were out on regular patrol.

“The gang raided at a time when the victim was manning the reporting desk alone. His three colleagues were out on patrol,” said Ombati.

The gang is alleged to have stolen seven G3 guns and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

Ombati said the victim was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital, Mumias for treatment.

The officer is set to be airlifted to Moi teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for specialized treatment.
