Cop on the spot over Ksh 20m wealth

A traffic police officer based at Webuye Police Station in Bungoma County has been hard pressed to explain how he acquired property worth more than 20 million shillings in his 22 years of service.

Sergent Japheth Ochoro was appearing before National Police Service Commission vetting board, where it was revealed he allegedly owns numerous parcels of land, rental houses and runs various businesses.

NPSC chair, Johnstone Kavuludi, questioned Ochoro on the circumstances under which he received more than 2 million shillings via MPESA mobile money transfer from timber sellers from 2012 to 2013.

However, the traffic cop has claimed his cattle, construction material, timber sales among other businesses are the source of his wealth.
