Cop shoots bar owner, kills self over Ksh 430 beer bill

A police in Molo Sub County opened fire and shot at a bar owner before shooting himself dead over a Ksh 430 bill on Wednesday, May 4.

It is believed that Isaac Wanjala, who was based at Elburgon Police Station, was irked by the bar owner, Sammy Osoro, who confiscated his phone when he failed to pay alcohol bill at around 2:25 am.

But when the Citizen Digital contacted Mr. Osoro, who is nursing serious head injuries at the Nakuru Provincial Hospital, he affirmed that the police officer had a tendency of refusing to pay his bills, prompting him to call the station’s OCS who advised him to take the phone.

“On Wednesday around 2:00 am, Wanjala came into the club and ordered some drinks. He bought me a bottle of beer and bought one for himself as well but when the waiter brought the bill, Wanjala refused to pay it,” Mr Osoro narrated to Citizen Digital.

Confirming the incident, Molo OCPD, Daniel Kamanza, said that the main cause of the altercation is alcohol abuse.

“Investigations show that the two did not have any history of arguments or strife. It was a decision purely influenced by too much alcohol intake,” Mr Kamanza said.
