Cops foil kidnap attempt in Muranga, rescue two minors

Police officers from the Maragua police station foiled an attempted kidnapping in the Maragua border area on Sunday night.

According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital, a report was made to the police that two girls, ages 15 and 17, were abducted by two panga-wielding men around midnight.

Officers who arrived on the scene discovered two men, identified as Machaa and Dave, with the two minors and challenged them to surrender.

According to the police report, Dave stood up and charged at the officers while holding the panga, prompting the officers to open fire.

He was hit on the left side and fell a few meters away from the officers, who rushed him to Maragua Hospital for treatment.

When the other suspect saw how the matter had escalated, he took to his heels and fled into the night.

Meanwhile, one of the girls was treated and released after suffering a cut on her left arm during the incident.

Later, the two minors went to the Maragua police station to record statements.

A manhunt has since been launched, according to police officers in charge of the case, to ensure the suspect who is at large is apprehended and charged.
