Cops implicated in Kisii shooting disarmed

The Kisii County Security Committee has disarmed Administration Police officers implicated in the shooting dead two women at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii Town on Thursday, October 6.

County Commissioner, Kula Hache, disclosed investigations into the incident had started and appealed to those who witnessed the incident and bereaved families to volunteer information to the security team.

She also urged the members of the public to return live bullets, magazines, spent cartridges and teargas canisters lost in the melee warning that the items were dangerous if left in the wrong hands.

Kula stressed that lawlessness and jeopardizing people’s lives will not be condoned adding that should the officers be found culpable, they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner, however, refuted claims that the implicated officers were attacked to Deputy President William Ruto’s security detail who were manning Gusii Stadium during the International Day for Elderly People.

She clarified the DP’s officers were at the stadium and left at 3:00 pm and the incident happened at 6:00 pm.

Kisii deputy governor, Joash Maangi, apologized to business owners whose property was damaged and goods looted in the confrontations.

The two women were traders at the Kisii open air market.
