CORD bosses invited to Mashujaa Day celebrations Governor Mutua

Machakos Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, has confirmed that all the three opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) principals have been invited for the Mashujaa Day celebrations that will be held at Machakos Stadium on Thursday, October 20.

The confirmation comes after CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, who is also the Wiper leader, said he intends to attend the ceremony and dedicate his African Dignitary Man of The Year Award to the people of Kenya.

“I can confirm that the Office of the President invited all the three principals; Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula,” said Mutua.

It is, however, unclear whether the CORD principals would attend the event, which will be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta, having snubbed a similar invitation to the Madaraka Day celebrations that was held in Nakuru in May.

In his defence, Raila said that he could not honour the invite to Nakuru since CORD had planned similar celebrations in Nairobi.

The battle for Ukambani is set to feature prominently during the Mashujaa Day celebrations with Governor Mutua expected to use the platform to spell out what he has done for the people of Machakos and drum up support for his 2017 re-election bid.

While Mutua has moved to position himself as Ukambani kingpin by launching Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement and leading the region’s exit from CORD, Kalonzo has insisted that his support base in the region cannot be shaken by Mutua’s overtures.
