CORD leader Raila Odinga wants fresh voter registration conducted

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga now wants a fresh voter registration exercise conducted after the disbandment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Raila said the move will help eradicate cases of ghost voters and assure Kenyans of a free and fair poll come August 8th, 2017.

The CORD leader also asked the Parliament Joint Select Committee on IEBC reforms to fast track its work and ensure the electoral body is disbanded.

Speaking at Migori Grounds during the homecoming ceremony of Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, Raila said CORD wants a fresh voters register before the 2017 General Elections.

“We want to reform the electoral infrastructure so that we have an electoral commission in place which can be able to manage the forth coming elections,” said Raila.

Speaking at the same event, Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama called for changes in the Constitution to allow for rotational presidency.

“The Constitution should have it written that no tribe will rule for more than 10 years when others have not ruled,” said Muthama.

During the ceremony, Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who was elected on a PDP ticket, decamped to ODM and declared his loyalty to the CORD coalition.
