CORDs demands on IEBC reforms unrealistic MP

Ol-Joro Orok Member of Parliament John Waiganjo has faulted the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) for apparently making impractical demands regarding the reformation of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking at Ndaragwa Trading Center in Nyandarua North Sub County, Waiganjo stated that some demands by the opposition are uncalled for saying preparation of new voters register would interfere with the elections.

He said that redoing the register is a tasking process and would not be ready before the next elections.

“Kenyans will not be taken for a ride by leaders who are pushing for their own selfish interest,” he said.

Waiganjo further noted that the formation of the new electoral body should be left to professionals, the religious organisations and the Public Service Commissions (PSC).

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, however steered clear of the issue, instead urging CORD to embrace parliamentary processes in seeking resolution to Constitutional issues.

“The issue of IEBC is before the joint select committee and I can therefore not speak about it. We agreed to the process to get CORD off our of the streets because no issue can be solved in the streets,” he said.

“CORD should learn to trust Parliament to solve its issues. Instead of complaining about tyranny of numbers they should focus on gathering support to ensure their motions pass before the House.”
