Cord’s New Year message to Kenyans, gov’t

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has today (Thursday) renewed his calls to the Jubilee Government to explain the expenditure of the Eurobond funds as we head into the New Year.

In a statement to newsrooms, Raila said the Jubilee Government has failed to account for the missing Sh140 billion of the Eurobond proceeds, further accusing the government of failing to explain to Kenyans the projects that were funded by the money.

Raila added that it was unfortunate that the directive by the Director of Public Prosecution to the EACC to file a report on the Eurobond saga to his office within ten days has lapsed without any action from the anti graft body.

He lamented that the electoral infrastructure remains wanting with the IEBC is still not fully prepared for the 2017 General Election due to poor funding from the government.

“The issue of electoral infrastructure must be tackled within the first quarter of 2016 or we just prepare for another grand failure,” said Raila

“ As opposition, we commit to continue exposing corruption in government. Eurobond money must be fully accounted for. We commit that by the end of 2016, we will have forced the government to sack and prosecute the thieves and seal every loophole that makes corruption easy and profitable,” Read the statement.

“Its our hope that in 2016, we can operate on an understanding that we all mean well for the country, that we can disagree without being disagreeable, that we can listen to each other and talk to each other rather than at each other. Let us be vigilant for our country, stand up for our rights and defend the Constitution,” Concluded the statement
