Coronavirus: 8-month-old baby whose father travelled from Kisumu among 5 new cases in Uganda

An 8-month-old baby whose father recently travelled from Kisumu in Kenya is among 5 new coronavirus cases in Uganda, bringing the country’s total to 14.

Uganda’s Director General of Health Services Dr. Henry Mwebesi, speaking to the country’s media outlets, said the baby exhibited flu and high fever systems and was admitted at a hospital in Iganga.

The baby is among three Ugandans in the 5 new cases; the other two are a 63-year old who travelled from Germany and a 57-year-old salt trader in Adjumani.

The remaining positive cases are Chinese nationals who tried to leave the country for DRC via Zombo district but were nabbed and taken into quarantine where they tested positive.

“Dear Ugandans, this is a very critical moment for everyone as the number of positive cases keeps scaling up,” said Uganda’s Minister of State for Primary Health Care.

“Five more people have been confirmed positive, including two of the six Chinese that were got in Zombo. They cannot be presented in court for fear of further spread.”

The previous nine positive cases of Covid-19 in the country are reportedly in stable condition.
