Coronavirus: Kenya announces 616 new cases, 12 deaths and 103 recoveries

The Ministry of Health has announced 616 new cases of the novel coronavirus, tested from a sample of 5,512 in the last 24 hours.

The new cases push the total numbers of cases confirmed so far to 44,196 and the cumulative tests carried out so far to 617,064.

From the cases: 594 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners; 391 are male and 225 female.

The youngest patient is an 8-month old infant while the oldest is 86 years.

Across the country, the cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi 121, Nakuru 110, Uasin Gishu 74, Mombasa 55, Kakamega 32, Kericho 29, Kisumu 26, Bungoma 21, Garissa 20, Turkana 16, Kiambu 13, Homa Bay 10, Kajiado 10, Kisii 10, Laikipia 9, Busia 8, Isiolo 6, West Pokot 6, Murang’a 6, Bomet 5, Meru 4, Narok 4, Embu 3, Baringo 3, Nyeri 2, Kwale 2, Machakos 2, Makueni 2, Siaya 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Wajir 1, Nandi 1, Kirinyaga 1, and Trans Nzoia 1.

At the sub county level, the cases are distributed as follows:

In Nairobi, the 121 cases are from Lang’ata (24), Kasarani (11) Roysambu (10), Dagoretti North, Embakasi East and Kibra (9) cases each, Dagoretti South and Westlands (7) cases each, Makadara (6), Embakasi South and Starehe (5) cases each, Kamukunji and Ruaraka (4) cases each, Embakasi Central, Embakasi North and Mathare (3) cases each, Embakasi West (2).

In Nakuru, the 110 cases are from Nakuru West (35), Gilgil (27), Nakuru East (26), Naivasha and Nakuru North (7) cases each, Rongai (6) Molo and Njoro (1) case each. In Uasin Gishu, the 74 cases are from Ainabkoi (47), Turbo (13), Moiben (12), Kapseret and Soy (1) case each.

In Mombasa, the 55 cases are from Mvita (26), Likoni (10), Kisauni (7), Jomvu and Nyali (6) cases each.

In Kakamega, the 32 cases are from Lurambi (17), Shinyalu (12) and Mumias West (3). In Kericho, the 29 cases are from Ainamoi (22), Belgut (6) and Buret (1).

The Health Ministry has also announced 104 new recoveries; 83 from the home-based care system and 21 from various hospitals across the country.

The total recoveries from the virus now stand at 31,752.

At the same time, Kenya’s coronavirus death-toll has jumped to 825 after 12 patients succumbed between Friday and Saturday.
