Coronavirus: Kenya records 1,109 new cases and 21 deaths

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced 1,109 new coronavirus infections from a sample pool of 7,153 tested in the last 24 hours.

The new infections push the country’s caseload to 60,704 and the total number of samples tested so far to 730,363.

MoH said that from the new cases, 1,073 are Kenyans while 36 are foreigners. 699 are male while 410 are female.

The youngest patient is 1-year-old while the oldest is 91.

So far, 1,300 patients are currently admitted to various hospitals countrywide while 5,439 are receiving care at home.

60 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where 27 are on ventilatory support while 27 others are on supplementary oxygen.

Another 89 patients are on supplementary oxygen; 75 of those are in general wards while 14 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The numbers are distributed across the country as follows:

Nairobi 347, Mombasa 198, Nakuru 73, Uasin Gishu 69, Meru 63, Kiambu 40, Kisumu 36, Nyeri 29, Kilifi 28, Kakamega 25, Trans Nzoia 23, Kajiado 20, Turkana 20, Machakos 17, Busia 15, Laikipia 14, Bungoma 12, Garissa 11, Kisii 11, Siaya 10, Kitui 7, Kwale 7, Nandi 6, Tharaka Nithi 6, Kericho 4, Murang’a 4, Mandera 3, Baringo 3, Embu 2, Bomet 1, Makueni 1, Isiolo 1, Kirinyaga 1, Taita Taveta 1 and Nyamira 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 347 cases in Nairobi, are from Lang’ata (89), Dagoretti North (33), Westlands (32), Starehe (30), Embakasi Central, Kamukunji and Kasarani (20) cases each, Mathare (19), Embakasi West (15), Dagoretti South, Makadara and Roysambu (12) cases each, Kibra (10), Ruaraka (9), Embakasi East (6), Embakasi North (5) and Embakasi South (3).

In Mombasa, the 198 cases are from Mvita (63), Nyali (52), Kisauni (31), Jomvu (25), Likoni (15) and Changamwe (12).

In Nakuru, the 73 cases are from Nakuru East and Rongai (16) cases each, Naivasha (15), Nakuru North (11), Nakuru West (6), Gilgil (4), Subukia (3) and Molo (2). In Uasin Gishu, the 69 cases are from Ainabkoi (35), Turbo (16), Kesses (9), Kapseret and Moiben (4) cases each and Soy (1).

In Meru, the 63 cases are from Imenti North (50), Imenti South (4), Buuri and Imenti Central (3) cases each, Tigania East (2) and Tigania West (1).

In Kiambu, the 40 cases are from Kiambu Town (12), Thika (6), Kiamba and Kikuyu (5) cases each, Kabete (4), Lari (3), Juja and Ruiru (2) cases each, Gatundu South (1). In Kisumu, all the 36 cases are from Kisumu Central.

In Nyeri, the 29 cases are from Mathira East (26) and Tetu (3) whil in  Kilifi, the 28 cases are from Kilifi North (15), Kaloleni (6), Malindi (5) and Kilifi South (2).

In Kakamega, the 25 cases are from Mumias West (13), Lurambi (8) and Shinyalu (4). In Trans Nzoia, the 23 cases are from Kwanza (9), Kiminini (8) and Cherangany (6). In Kajiado, the 20 cases are from Kajiado North (11), Kajiado East (8) and Loitokitok (1).

The cases in Turkana cases are from Turkana West.

In Machakos, the 17 cases are from Machakos Town (10), Athi River (7). In Busia, the 15 cases are from Teso North (14) and Matayos (1). In Laikipia, the 14 cases are from Laikipia East (12), Laikipia North and Laikipia West
(1) case each.

In Bungoma, the 12 cases are from Kanduyi (8), Bumula and Kimilili (2) cases each. In Garissa, the 11 cases are from Fafi (9) and Dadaab (2). In Kisii, the 11 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (9), Bobasi and Kitutu Chache North (1) case each.

In Siaya, the 10 cases are from Alego Usonga and Gem (3) case each, Rarieda (2), Bondo and Ugenya (1) case each. In Kitui, the 7 cases are from Kitui Central (5), Mwingi Central and Mwingi West (1) case each.

In Kwale, the 7 cases are from Lungalunga (4) and Msambweni (3) while in Nandi, the 6 cases are from Emgwen (4) and Chesumei (2).

In Tharaka Nithi, all the 6 cases are from Chuka.

The 4 cases in Kericho, are from Ainamoi (2), Bureti and Kipkelion (1) case each, while the 4 cases in Murang’a, are from Kandara (2), Kiharu and Mathioya (1) case each.

In Mandera, all the 3 cases are from Mandera East, while in Baringo, the 3 cases are from Mogotio (2) and Baringo Central (1). In Embu, the 2 cases are from Manyatta and Mbeere South (1) case each. The case in Bomet, is from Sotik.

The total number of recoveries so far has risen to 40,131 after 938 people recovered from the disease.

8556 were from Home-Based Isolation and Care while 82 were discharged from various hospitals across the country.

At the same time, the coronavirus death toll has risen to 1,093 after 21 people succumbed between Thursday and Friday.
