Coronavirus: Kenya records 278 new cases, total rises to 5,811

Kenya’s coronavirus cases on Saturday rose to 5,811 after 278 more patients tested positive for the disease from 4,074 samples tested within the last twenty four hours.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the new cases are composed of 276 Kenyans and two foreign nationals.

Dr. Mwangangi, who spoke during the daily COVID-19 briefings at Afya House, also stated that the 278 include 181 males and 97 females aged between one and 84 years.

The cases are distributed in the counties of: Nairobi (171), Mombasa (37), Nakuru (17), Kiambu (12), Busia (10), Uasin Gishu (9), Kajiado (4), Migori (3), Kericho (2), Machakos (2), Nandi (2), Trans Nzoia (2), Siaya (1), Taita Taveta (1), Kwale (1), Kisumu (1), Makueni (1), Meru (1) and Vihiga (1).

The 171 infections in Nairobi were recorded in such areas as: Westlands (34), Lang’ata (28), Dagoretti North (17), Makadara (16), Kibra (11), Embakasi East (10), Kasarani (9), Embakasi South (8), Kamukunji (8), Starehe (6), Embakasi West (5), Dagoretti South (5), Embakasi Central (4), Roysambu (4), Mathare (3), Ruaraka (2) and Embakasi North (1).

Dr. Mwangangi also revealed that 31 patients were discharged from various health facilities across the country hence the number of recoveries now stands at 1,936.

The CAS further stated that four patients succumbed from the disease, taking the total number of fatalities to 141.
