Coronavirus: Kenya records 719 new cases,8 deaths and 912 recoveries

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has hit 62,488 after 719 new cases were reported on Sunday.

In a statement sent to media houses, the Ministry of Health said the cases were from 4,732 samples.

So far, Kenya has tested 742,481 samples.

685 of the new cases are Kenyans while 34 are foreigners. 451 are male while 268 are females.

The youngest patient is a five-month-infant while the oldest is 81.

1,316 patients are currently admitted to various hospitals while 5,623 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care.

60 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 33 on supplementary oxygen.

Another 70 are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 59 are in the General Ward while 11 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi 336, Mombasa 84, Busia 50, Kiambu 45, Turkana 33, Kajiado 24, Kitui 21, Nyeri 20, Garissa 20, Nakuru 18, Kakamega 17, Mandera 14, Machakos 9, Kilifi 4, Kirinyaga 4, Trans Nzoia 4, Homabay 3, Tharaka Nithi 3, Nyandarua 2,Meru 2, Isiolo 1, Kwale 1, Nyamira 1, Laikipia 1, Migori 1 and Embu 1

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 336 cases in Nairobi, are from Kibra (46), Starehe (37) Westlands (32), Langʻata (28), Dagoretti North (25), Embakasi West (24), Kamukunji (23), Dagoretti South (17), Embakasi East (15), Makadara and Mathare (14) cases each, Embakasi North (13), Kasarani and Ruaraka (12) cases each, Embakasi Central (11), Roysambu (7) and Embakasi South, (6).

In Mombasa, the 84 cases are from Mvita (30), Jomvu (19), Changamwe and Kisauni (10) cases each, Nyali (8), Likoni (7).

In Kiambu, the 45 cases are from Kiambu Town (16), Ruiru (9), Kiambaa (6), Kikuyu (4), Kabete and Thika (3) cases each, Lari (2), Gatundu South and Juja (1) case each.

In Turkana, all 33, cases are from Turkana West.

In Kajiado, the 24 cases are from Kajiado North (16), Kajiado East (6) and Loitokitok (2). In Kitui the 21 cases are from Kitui Central (8), Kitui Rural (5), Mwingi West (3), Kitui East and Kitui West (2) cases each, Mwingi Central (1).

In Nyeri the 20 cases are from Nyeri central 14), Mathira East and Tetu (3) cases each.

In Garissa, the 20 cases are from Dadaab (17), Garissa Town (2) and Lagdera (1). In Nakuru, all the 18 cases are from Naivasha.

In Kakamega, the 17 cases are from Lurambi (14), Likuyani (2) and Lugari (1).

In Mandera all the 14 cases are from Mandera East. In Machakos, the 9 cases are from Athi River (7), Kangundo and Machakos Town (1) case each.

In Kilifi, the 4 cases are from Malindi (3) and Kaloleni (1). In Kirinyaga, the 4 cases are from Kirinyaga Central and Kirinyaga East (2) cases each.

The Health Ministry has also announced 8 new fatalities and 912 recoveries which push the death toll so far to 1,111 and the total recoveries to 41,931.

782 of the new recoveries were patients under the Home-Based Isolation and Care while 130 were discharged from hospitals across the country.
