Coronavirus patient dies in Siaya as Kenya confirms 6 more cases, total now at 197

Kenya has confirmed an additional six cases of the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 197.

The six cases who are aged between 25 and 29 years old are from 766 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

Of the six cases, five are Kenyan nationals while one is a foreign citizen.

The cases have been spread out to Nairobi, Mombasa and Siaya with Nairobi recording four cases while Siaya and Mombasa confirmed one case each.

Two of the confirmed cases have a history of recent travel to the Middle East while one of the cases recently travelled from Mombasa.

Three other cases have no history of recent travel.

Five of the confirmed cases are from the designated quarantine facilities while the sixth case was picked by the Ministry of Health’s surveillance team.

At the same time, Kenya has lost one patient to the coronavirus in Siaya bringing the total number of coronavirus deaths to eight.

A total of 2160 cases have been monitored so far with 1660 being discharged after testing negative.

At the moment, the Ministry of Health is following five hundred contacts of the confirmed cases.

Kenya has so far tested 7,449 samples since the confirmation of the first case in the country.
