COTU Boss Calls Off Workers Strike

COTU boss Francis Atwoli says he has called off the strike because he had been reinstated to NSSF trustee board together with Federation of Kenyan Employers Boss Jackline Mugo pending the hearing of a case they had filed at the industrial court.

Atwoli says the umbrella workers union will now await the decision of the court which is set for hearing on Tuesday.

COTU had threatened to strike over the sacking of Francis Atwoli from National Social Security Fund Board.

In a statement that was read by the Secretary General of the Kenya Electrical Trade and Allied Workers Union (KETAWU) Ernest Nadome, the trade unionists had made demands and further issued a 7 days ultimatum for the government to meet them.

Key among the demands was the re-instatement of Francis Atwoli to the NSSF Board and the removal of Kazungu Kambi from the position of Cabinet Secretary on grounds of incompetence.

Other demands included immediate adjustment of the current minimum wage as promised on Labour Day and the de-gazettment of Cornelius Ogutu from the NSSF Board of Trustees saying he should not be allowed to represent COTU.
