Council of Governors want Senate scrapped

The Council of Governors is proposing that the Senate be scrapped accusing it of fighting devolution.

Speaking in Urruu Stadium in Tigania West Sub County, COG Chair Peter Munya said that when a referendum is conducted, the Senate must be scrapped since they have not accomplished what they set out to do.

He further accused the Senate of witch hunting, saying that the House lacks quorum when passing funds for counties but seem to have quorum in other forums such as when criticising governors.

On the issue of the National Health and Insurance Fund (NHIF), Munya said that the national government did not consult them when they issued the Universal Insurance, which he says has not helped anyone.

He added that the national government owes counties Sh2 billion, which must be paid before the universal insurance programme is rolled out.

The COG chair further expressed concern over gambling, saying that counties will pass laws to regulate gambling, adding that the youth and the poor are the most vulnerable to the evils of gambling.
