Kirinyaga factory closed down over counterfeit products

A factory in Kirinyaga County has been shut down for manufacturing counterfeit products.

According to County Commissioner Mohammed Birik, the items impounded were fake Vaseline oil, maize and wheat flour as well as sugar products worth millions of shillings.

Officials from the Anti-Counterfeit Agency said the factory at Ngurubani town in Mwea was operating illegally with an expired license.

The owner of the factory was arrested and taken to Wang’uru Police Station.

During the operation, the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) also closed down over 150 bars and spearheaded the arrested of 78 owners.

Only three bars were unaffected at Sagana and Kagio trading centers.
