Counties to Benefit from Ksh 200M Health Project

The plan is expected to make major changes and improvenments to the health sector at the county level.

JICA has been in the country since 2011 working together with the ministry of health in supporting the health sector.

The meeting that took place at Laico regency in Nairobi had a clear laid out agenda.

Among the laid out issues include: upgrading and equipping hospitals, ensuring enough budgetary allocations and promote those who have upgraded from certificate level to degree levels among others.

The council of county executive commttee chair Peter simiyu said counties will readvertise health positions after it emerged that the workers they inherited before devolution were incompetent and unsuitable.

“Its unfortunate that we acquired unsuitable and demotivated workforce", Simiyu said.

Health workers will be given incentives in all counties to motivate them while at least one student in each ward in the counties will benefit from training by the heath sector.

Statistics by the ministry of health however revealed that 80% of people are 5km away from the health facility with only 20% living within a 5km radius.
