County Commissioners moved in mini-reshuffle

The Ministry of Interior has transferred eleven County Commissioners in a bid to ensure maximum security in the run up to the August 8, 2017 General Election.

Nairobi County Commissioner, Godfrey Mwaura Kigochi, has been transferred to Samburu, three months to the August 8 poll in the mini-reshuffle.

According to a statement to the media from the Interior Principal Secretary, Dr. Karanja Kibicho, Mr. Mwaura will take over from Mohamed Birik, who proceeds to Kirinyaga County in a reshuffle exercise that is to be effected immediately as the officers are supposed to report to their new stations by Wednesday, May 3.

In other changes, Wajir County Commissioner, Michael Tialal, has been transferred to Busia as Mr. John Chelimo who acted at the same capacity in Busia will now take charge in Wajir.

Nyamira County Commissioner, Joseph Rotich, has been redeployed to Migori, one of the counties shortlisted by the Interior CS as an election violence hot spot, to replace Mr. Seif Idd Matata, who now proceeds to Turkana in the same capacity.

Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru of Tana River County will take the helm in Nyamira as Nyeri’s Oningo Ole Sosio proceeds to replace him.

Deputy County Commissioner of Makadara Sub County has been moved to Nyeri as the County Commissioner in an acting capacity.

Bomet County will, for the third time in a span of only a year, receive a new Commissioner after Mr. Ekidor Erastus was transferred from Kirinyaga where Mohamed Birik will take charge.

Commissioner Stephen Ikua of Turkana County has now been moved to the Office of the President.

County Commissioners have been given decisive powers to ensure security prevails within their area of jurisdiction.

Commissioners are specifically to direct and coordinate all national government functions and programs in the county.

This was one of the measures initiated in a bid to restructure the provincial administration to align it with the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.
