County Commissioners to oversee national exams Govt

County commissioners are set to supervise the national examinations, Principle Secretary to the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Belio Kipsang, says.

According to the principle secretary, the county commissioners will be in charge of securing exams during the entire assessment process – starting next week when learners sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education tests.

“The examination papers will be picked at the county offices from specific containers. Only the county chiefs will have access to these containers and this will ensure the integrity of our exams is restored,” said the PS.

Speaking during the issuance of laptops to pupils of Kibirigwi Primary School in Ndia constituency, the Principle Secretary said the government was committed to eradicating cheating.

Acting Kirinyaga County Commissioner Robert Kitili, urged schools to vet all applicants for being watchmen of the school during the exam, as this would help curb cases of exam theft. exam period.

Approximately 5000 students had their examination results cancelled last year due exam irregularities. Massive cheating led to the disbandment of the National Examinations Board, and the arrest of nine of the board members in March 2016.
