County suffers major blow as bursary account affected by Chase Bank closure

Trans Nzoia County Education Officer John Mengwa has issued a directive to bursary fund beneficiaries to return cheques issued to them following the closure of Chase Bank.

In a press briefing at his office, Mengwa said that students and institutions who benefit from the county fund should return the cheques so that they can be financed from a different account.

“We have a challenge as a government as our bursary account was in Chase Bank and it has been placed under receivership. We are urging the beneficiaries who have received their cheques to return them through the Ward Administrators because they cannot be cashed,” he said.

He, however, reassured beneficiaries that the move will not interfere with their studies, as the county government processes new cheques.

“We are appealing to the learning institutions across the country to allow the beneficiaries to learn as we do the replacement of the same cheques.”
