By Babuu Leon

Police in Tana Delta are currently holding a couple at the Garsen Police Station after they allegedly married off their 15-year-old daughter.

Mohammed Dabas Omar and Rehema Salim Dube are accused of marrying off the minor to the Chairman of Odole Primary School.

The teen, who was allegedly married off on January 19, 2019, went to the same school and scored 279 marks in her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

Confirming the arrests, Tana River Deputy County Commissioner Charles Akwanalo said police officers are on the trail of the man in question who is currently at large.

Mr. Akwanalo also stated that well-wishers had already come forward and expressed their desire to sponsor the girl’s secondary school education.

He further cautioned parents against marrying off their children saying those found culpable will be arrested and prosecuted.
