Couple Detained After Killing Dad Over Land Dispute

Lucy Wanjiru Nyaga and Simon Muchangi Kiura were arraigned before Embu Resident Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi and charged with the offence

The couple was not allowed to take a plea over the charges as the investigating officer sought more time to carry out investigation.

The two stood on the dock pensively as the investigating officer sought orders from the court to detain them for 14 days to enable him carry out thorough investigation.

The magistrate granted the orders sought by the prosecution and ordered that the two be detained at Embu police station and be produced before the court on the 27th of January 2015.

Wanjiru is said to have hit her father in law Duncan Kiura with a stone on the head following a land dispute in Njukirii Village Embu West Sub County.

Wanjiru and her husband were barely two weeks into their marriage when the incident occurred
