Couple in court for failing to pay Ksh.140K hotel bill

A couple was on Monday morning arraigned in court for allegedly spending over a week in a Nairobi hotel and leaving without paying the Ksh.140,200 bill they had incurred.

Roy Bennet Osano and Beth Muthoni Kimani are accused of committing the offence at Eka Hotel in Lang’ata on diverse dates between January 4 and January 11, 2017.

They incurred a bill of Ksh.140,200 by booking and checking into the hotel for eight days after which they fled without checking out.

The two are further accused of later issuing a bad check of Ksh.75,000 to the hotel. It is alleged that on February 9, 2017 they jointly issued the cheque to the hotel yet the account from which the funds were to be drawn had insufficient funds.

The duo was arraigned before Milimani Chief magistrate Francis Andayi where they denied the charges.

Muthoni was released on Ksh.10,000 cash bail as she has a three month old baby while Osano was ordered to pay a Ksh.30,000 cash bail.

The magistrate advised the couple to consider settling the matter with the hotel out of court.

The case will be mentioned on April 23, 2018.
