Court accuses police of covering up 9-year-old Stephanie Moraa’s killing

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi has accused the police of covering up the killing of 9-year-old Stephanie Moraa during the 2017 General Election protests in Mathare.

While the court noted that the police deliberately killed the innocent child, Magistrate Andayi – who conducted the hearings – said the police used the blue code of silence.

Moraa was shot during the 2017 General Elections chaos while playing on their balcony.

The court noted that it was very easy for the senior police officers to track down the officers who had been deployed in Mathare area during that fatal day but they instead chose to protect their own.

“I am almost certain that if the police service wished to identify and bring to book the officer who took away the life of Stephanie Moraa Gisemba, it would not take them a day to do so,” Magistarate Andayi ruled.

The court noted that it was unfortunate that the officer who took away the child’s cannot be brought to book because he is under the protection of the blue code.

In their testimony, the police had told court that they didn’t have a list of the officers who were deployed in the area on that day.
