Court bars police from arresting 12 NASA leaders
The High Court has barred police from arresting ten NASA affiliated politicians and officials after they were granted a 100,000 shillings anticipatory bail.
The leaders include; Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Senators James Orengo, George Khaniri and Cleopas Malala, Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga, MPs; George Aladwa, Simba Arati, Babu Owino, Businessman Jimi Wanjigi, NASA CEO Norman Magaya, NASA strategist David Ndii, and Oduor Ong’wen.
In his ruling, Justice Luka Kimaru further directed that they report to the Director of Criminal Investigations on Wednesday February 7.
This comes just a day after the leaders moved to court seeking to have police and DCI barred from arresting them in connection to the controversial January 30, ‘swearing-in’ of Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’.
Taking to twitter, the National Police Service Commission has however indicated that the NASA leaders are not persons of interest in the ongoing investigation.
“The National Police Service wishes to state that neither Hassan Joho, Jimmy Wanjigi, David Ndii nor the 9 others who have sought anticipatory bail are being sought as of now in connection with commission of any crimes,” read NPSC tweet.
“Those individuals should therefore not bother turning up at the DCI offices. They are not persons of interest to the Police as of now,” read a subsequent tweet.
